With two bosses gobbling right off the roost, and hard too, I hot-footed towards them. With the land being somewhat flat, I sat up four different times thinking I was close enough. It wasn't until I came upon a former logging landing, that I stayed put and called.

They were there in full strut and gobbling in no time. Both toms were in shooting range and were in all their glory on that perfect April morning. With a show of strutting, drumming, and gobbling, right in front of me, I was tempted to just sit and watch but the jitters came over me and when one threw up the periscope searching for that sweet hen, I couldn't help myself and dropped him clean. The other boss wasted not a moment in heading south.

Awesome, classic hunt that resulted in my heaviest bird ever and the first from my custom slate call I'd made the previous summer.
