Story
of the Hunt
We had watched this bird
for a couple of day's in the same spot
in the afternoons. We set up on him
but he never showed. I told Sean "my
friend from Wyoming" that something
just delayed him and he probably would
show the next morning. Well about roost
time four hens came accross the field
and right to us. I didn't want them
anywhere near where we thought he would
be so I got up and spooked them.
The next morning Sean
had to head home so I went and set up
in the same spot. He never gobbled from
the tree but did gobble once on the
ground so I called to him one time and
in less than a minute he came on a dead
run to within 12 yards of my set-up.
I shot and he started stumbling off
so I had to shoot again. I didn't think
much of it but the next day I had to
shoot another one three times. My gun
had been knocked off during the flight.
It was shooting low and left. Lesson
learned!
Anyway that was my first
ever Merriam.
